At my son’s school, the kids all take turns bringing a snack to school to share with the other kids. Today was our lucky day. Hayden (aka me) is required to bring 11 snacks total and it can’t be a sweet baked good, candy, include nuts, or be high in fat. It also needs to be individually packaged. What is there left for a kid to have then? I’m kidding, but really, with everything going on in life, it’s often a struggle the night before to come up with something that 11 discerning young toddlers aren’t going to spit out or throw across the room.
Enter the fun snack.
I’ve found that kids will eat almost anything if it looks cute. So, for this round of snacks, we’re making fruity pumpkins – and my son Hayden is helping.
What you’ll need:
- a dozen easy to peel clementines (cuties brand works well)
- celery stalks (quartered and cut into 1 inch long pieces)
Step One. Peel the oranges. I let Hayden do the first one and he ate it, so he quickly lost that job. You also might want to do this part yourself because you want the oranges to stay in one piece and not have the segments come apart. You don’t have to pull out the inside piece connecting the segments; just push it down and create a hole.
Step Two. Have your kid put the celery halfway down into the hole. Yes folks, it’s that easy – and kids and adults alike love them!
Extra tip: Use a disposable cupcake tin to transport them easily to wherever they’re going.
Voila! You’re done! This is easy-peasy snack that looks cute, is healthy, and your kiddos can help make. It’s also an easy think to those dreaded office Thanksgiving parties where everyone brings something to share. If you brought these, they’re sure to be a hit!
