I’m warning you now – once you start down this road, there is no stopping. And there was a lot of exasperation in my making these little furry things. But, if you’re willing to have little yarn balls take over your house, this is the start of the madness…
I guess we should start with how to make these little guys.
First of all – you’ll need some yarn and scissors. Yep, that’s all of the necessary items for this one. I love a super cheap craft! You’ll want to get a yarn that is soft. Of course you can go with the cheap stuff, but I find that kind to be a little scratchy, so I tend to go with a little bit more pricey brand. If you buy your yarn on the week that Hobby Lobby has their 50% yarn sale, it’ll be a little more budget-friendly.Next, you’ll take your yarn and wrap it around the top of a chair. I found that our dining room chair works best, since they don’t have fabric on them. You will wrap the yarn around at least 100 times. Seriously. I counted. It’s monotonous, but necessary. When you get to the 100 mark (or higher if you want a fluffier pom pom), then you’ll cut the end of the yarn and tuck it in with the yarn that’s already wrapped.Next, cut a few pieces of yarn about 4 to 5 inches in length. It doesn’t have to perfect and they don’t have to be the same. You just want them to be long enough that you’ll be able to tie it.Take one of your cut pieces and tie it around your bundled yarn. It should be so tight that the yarn bunches. Use the other cut pieces to tie around the yarn bundles about every 1 inch or so. Warning: after tying two full batches of these, I had blisters on my hands where the yarn cut into them – that’s how tightly you want it wrapped. When you’ve got all of the yarn sectioned off with the smaller pieces, cut the yarn in between the tied parts. It will look like this (above) once you’ve done so.Cut in between each tied section. Then trim the tied pieces to match the rest of the yarn length. This is what they’ll look like when you have cut them off and trimmed them.Lastly, fluff the little balls so that you can no longer see the piece of yarn holding them together. Depending on the size of the chair you use, your number of pom poms it will make varies, but I got about 35 out of one batch.
In the coming days, we’ll be discussing the many ways in which you can use these little balls.
I invited myself over to a friend’s home. Now, I don’t make a habit of this and I certainly didn’t do it just because. A few weeks ago I got to spend some time with a friend of mine I hadn’t seen in probably close […]
If you saw my Instagram stories today, then you saw my Christmas tree. Yes, yes, it’s up already. This year has been a dumpster fire and I needed something to bring joy to our home. So up the tree went. My tree is anything but […]
The Pinners Conference is a two-day long crafting, cooking, and organizing extravaganza! Basically, if it’s something you’d “pin” on Pinterest, then they’ll have something closely related to it there. There’s classes and shopping all day long both days and you are in for a real […]
