So, you’ve decided to go on a Disney cruise, now what? In this blog post I’m going to help you out by showing you the four questions you
What’s your budget?
This is the very first question you should ask yourself, because it’s going to determine the answers to all of the rest of the four questions as well. Disney cruises are definitely not the cheapest cruises you can go on, but they are pretty dang awesome and worth every penny. Just make sure to sit down with your travel companions and hash out how much you want to spend ahead of time.
Where do you want to go?
Disney cruises happen literally all over the world, so what locations are you most interested in? Here’s a list of all the ports Disney Cruises leave from:
- San Diego, California
- Miami, Florida
- Port Canaveral, Florida
- New Orleans, Louisiana
- New York, New York
- Galveston, Texas
- Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
- Copenhagen, Denmark
- Dover, England
- Rome, Italy
- San Juan, Puerto Rico
- Barcelona, Spain
When do you want to go?
This is a two part question – when is it feasible for your family to go on vacation and when/where are the cruises leaving?
First of all, make sure you’re going on vacation that works for your family. For instance, if you’re an accountant, April is probably not going to be a great month for you to be in the middle of the ocean – even though you might want to be!
Cruising season also needs to be considered. It varies by destination port, so if it’s “high season”, prices will be higher and if it’s not, you’ll pay less. For instance, if you take a winter cruise out of Galveston, you’re more likely to pay less for your cruise than those who are sailing off in May. And then of course there’s cruises that leave out of Miami where the weather is always ideal for cruising. There’s also some “sweet spot” cruises like one my parents took last year. It was a two-week, one way cruise from San Diego, California to Galveston, Texas in October. It was actually the cruise that occurs when the ships are changing base ports for the season. These cruises are harder to come by, but they’re also a great deal if you can get away for that long and snag a spot on one. Their cruise actually went through the Panama Canal! Cool!
How long do you want to be cruising?
The shortest cruise length offered is 2 Nights, and the longest is 14 Nights, so it’s up to you for how long you want to be sailing the open seas! And don’t worry, no matter the length of your trip or ports visited, you’ll have plenty of activities aboard the ship to keep your family having fun.
When you’ve looked at all the options and you’re ready to book your cruise, make sure to go through a travel agency like Get Away Today. They specialize in Disney vacations, have access to even more deals, and can also help you get some extras like onboard credits and lower down payments!
