Spooky Spider Dip

October 1, 2020
Spooky Spider Dip

I’m not a huge Halloween fan.

I don’t enjoy scary movies, creepy costumes, or being in a cemetery at night. But I do love food, so any excuse to get together and eat is alright with me!

Seven layer dips have been around forever.

This deconstructed taco dip is perfect for all you Halloween ghouls and ghosts. Why not try it for a fun after school snack or Sunday appetizer while watching your favorite sports game?

What’s in a Seven Layer Dip?

7 layer dips can vary in ingredients, but I think of it having all the goodies a delicious taco would have in it. This one of mine has refried beans, guacamole, sour cream, taco seasoning, tomatoes, green onions, olives, and shredded cheese.

How Long Does 7 Layer Dip Last In Fridge?

Seven layer dip lasts about 3 to 4 days in the fridge. The longer it is stored, the more the layers will bleed together and it can get a bit watery. You can just drain it off, but in my experience, this dip won’t last that long. After the first 24 hours, it may not look pretty, but I can assure you it will still taste great!

Spooky Spider Dip

Seven layers of taco deliciousness just aren’t enough! With guacamole, refried beans, cheese, and even a sour cream spider’s web, this is the perfect Halloween snack!

  • 1 can (16 oz refried beans)
  • 2 avocados (peeled, pitted, and diced)
  • 1 ½ tablespoons fresh lime juice
  • ¼ cup fresh cilantro (chopped )
  • ¼ cup salsa
  • 1 tsp garlic
  • 1/2 tsp salt (to taste)
  • 1 8 ounce container sour cream (plus a little extra for web design)
  • 1 1 ounce package taco seasoning mix
  • 1 bunch green onions (finely chopped)
  • 2 cups shredded Mexican-style cheese blend
  • 1 2.25 ounce can sliced black olives (drained)
  1. In a medium bowl, mash the avocados until they are a smooth consistency. Mix in lime juice, cilantro, salsa, garlic salt and pepper.

  2. In a small bowl, blend the sour cream and taco seasoning.
  3. In a 9×13 inch dish or on a large serving platter, spread the refried beans. Top with sour cream mixture.

  4. Spread on guacamole. Top with cheese.

  5. Around the outer edges of the pan, add on top the tomatoes, green onions, and black olives.

  6. Using a squeeze bottle filled with sour cream, draw a plus sign on the middle of the dip. Next, draw two more lines across the plus sign diving each section into 8. Using an arch inbetween each lines, connect each line to the one next to it. Add plastic spiders and you've got yourself a spider's web.
