Turn off your tablet!
If your family is like mine, it’s always a struggle to get the kids off of their devices. I don’t let them play for extended amounts of time on them, but man, do they hate to turn them off!
I now have a secret weapon that’s made that “powering down” moment so much easier – Circle Home Plus.
What is Circle Home Plus?
Circle Home Plus is a comprehensive screen time management solution. But it’s more than just a timer telling the kids when to get off of their iPads. It’s a whole home device that helps families find balance, set healthy limits, build good habits, and get the best out of their digital experience.
What Can Circle Home Plus Do?
Screen time management. Not only can you program each device that is connected to your wifi to shut down or turn on at a certain time, but you can also manage that when you’re not home. Setting time limits and bedtimes that disconnect devices from the internet at certain times is another helpful feature.
Age appropriate filters. Let’s face it, there’s a lot of things out there that kids just shouldn’t see. That’s why filtering the content they’re exposed to is so important.
Revoke permissions. Someone in you home get into trouble and lose their internet privileges? You can disconnect that child’s device with the tap of a button via your mobile app.
Focus time. This one may be my favorite aspect of this device – you can restrict certain websites during certain times. So if your child is distance learning and you want them to stay on task, you can turn everything on their device off except for their schoolwork with the push of a button.
Why is Circle Home Plus so Important?
Throughout the last year, the pandemic has caused an even bigger problem – screen time for kids has risen 500%! Nearly half of American children spend more than 6 hours in front of a screen. Not only can this cause vision problems and antisocial behaviors, but it can also lead to more time to search for (or stumble upon) harmful content.
Circle Home Plus – An Honest Review
Focus time is awesome for kids and for those of us who work from home as well. For instance, I know that if I’m working on something and I hit a roadblock or my phone dings, I’m easily distracted and likely to end up on social media or straying my focus from what I should actually be doing.
All that being said, I don’t think this device is worth the price tag. On my son’s iPad, I can set the bedtime feature so that he isn’t able to use it from whatever time I set (which, for us is 8pm to 7am). I also have it restricted to not let him on certain websites or certain rated websites, so that’s not really any different.
I think the most important thing for parents to do in order to keep their kids safe online is to monitor them. Don’t rely on a device. Set limits on how often they can use their devices and if they break a rule, that device is taken away and/or spends the night in my nightstand. It’s as simple as that. But the most important thing is communicate with your child. Tell them why certain website are not appropriate for them and tell them why it isn’t good for them. Will they try to see what they can get away with? Yes. But you’re instilling a conscience in them in knowing what is okay and what isn’t.
