I love celebrating summer and the 4th of July as much as the next gal, but I have to admit that I hate the messiness of it. Case in point: we have a box of popsicles in our freezer that only comes out once in a while because I hate cleaning up the inevitable stickiness that is sure to follow.
But, if you’re like me and need a few tips to help you get through the day – whether hosting others or just enjoying spending time outdoors with your own family, here’s a few tips to help you do it.
- Before you head to the Wal-mart for supplies, take advantage of their curbside pickup program. This is seriously the best thing ever. You simply log in to your account, select the items you want, and then drive to your local Wal-Mart and a store associate will bring them out to you. Speaking as someone who has two kids under 5, this is a lifesaver to not have to take them in the store with me. It also will allow you to have more time to get your house “company ready”.
- Buy plastic tablecloths from the dollar store. I know most of you will probably be using paper plates to feed the crowd, but $1 plastic tablecloths are the next thing that should be a necessity. They’re $1 each, so once you’re done eating, just wrap the whole area up and put it in the trash. It couldn’t make clean-up any easier!
- For those other messes that you can’t seem to avoid – like popsicle juice-covered doorknobs or those inevitable lemonade spills, Viva Paper Towels and Clorox Spray are definitely something that should be on your grocery list. The Viva towels are thick and sturdy so they won’t fall apart on you and the Clorox spray will cut through the grime and stickiness if it happens to sit there a while and you don’t find it until long after your guests have left.
