Ever since Gilmore Girls ended, I’ve been dreaming of the day of its return. After all, when the show ended back in 2007, Rory was headed to work on Obama’s campaign trail and Lorelai and Luke were splitsville.
So when I heard Netflix was having a pop-up Luke’s Diner in 200 coffee shops around the US, I just knew at least one had to be in the Houston area!
On October 5th, I woke up early and headed to Bosta to get my superfan on! Yes, getting there at 6:40am was not ideal, but I knew there was going to be coffee at the finish line! The importance of October 5th is that this was the day the show first aired back in 2000. When I got there, the line had at least 75 people already in front of me – and it didn’t even start until 7am! By the time 7am actually rolled around, the line was down the block and around the building. In fact, the line was still that long when I left. Yikes! That’s commitment!
At the pop-up event, the staff donned Luke’s diner t-shirts and aprons, flannel shirts, backwards baseball caps, and handed out 250 cups of free coffee complete with Gilmore Girls cups and sleeves. I heard that at the same event in another state, the legit Luke Danes (in real life his name is Scott Patterson) made appearance – how fun!
The event was really cool! It was neat to see how this tv show had so many generations engrossed in it and with such a love for the characters. Some people were dressed up like Luke, some like Rory in her Chilton uniform, and I even found a reason to finally wear my Luke’s Diner hoodie my hubby gave me last year!
As for where these characters are now…I’m off to Netflix to found out…
