3 Questions to Ask Yourself Before Hosting a Brunch

3 Questions to Ask Yourself Before Hosting a Brunch

If you’re like me, most get togethers I have with friends stem from a conversation that goes something like this…

“It’s been too long since we’ve seen each other. We should get together more often…”

And then, before I know it, I’m neck deep in recipes, decor ideas, and a guest list. Are you like me? Over the years, I’ve gotten better at harnessing those spur of the moment invitations to friends and really contemplating the idea. Here are the three questions I ask myself before deciding to host a get together with friends:

1. What are you going to eat?

Are we going buffet style or plated meal? Is the location going to allow for the food to be served hot? Should I make it potluck style and have everyone bring their own food? How much am I willing to spend on this get together?

2. Who is invited? How many people do you want to be there?

Is this going to be a big pot-luck style get together or a more intimate group? Are kids invited or should I ask my guests to find childcare for them? Do I want to be able to have real conversations with close friends or do I want to invite the masses and have limited conversations?

3. What can you do ahead of time to make it easier on yourself?

Can you set the table the night before so you’re not rushing to do it last minute? Can you fix certain parts of the meal ahead of time? Is there a good balance of meal items that can be served at room temperature along side those that need to be served warm? What can you outsource (ie who do you know that you can ask for help)?

I hope these questions have helped you narrow down your ideas for your next get together!
