I love planning my kids’ birthday parties – so with my daughter celebrating her first birthday earlier this week, I wanted to find a theme that would fit the occasion. She doesn’t have any interests, so it really could be anything! I love Christmas, but I didn’t want that to be the theme because I didn’t want to lump her birthday in with Christmas, but I was definitely inspired by Santa’s favorite snacks for this one! The milk and cookies theme was such a fun idea to pull off! Here’s a few photos with some details on the setup.
The Food. It was simple – Milk. Cookies. I also had a hot chocolate bar where guests could add their own toppings to their warm, chocolatey treat. The cookies I served were gingerbread men, harvest apple, chocolate chip, hot cocoa cookies (complete with marshmallows), snickerdoodles, chocolate caramel, caramels, pink meringues, and strawberry cupcakes.
The Decor. For the table and wall backdrop, I used pink plastic tablecloths from Dollar Tree. The happy birthday banner was from Amazon, as was the gold sequin table runner. The two signs I got from Hobby Lobby. The lighted heart marquee sign was from Target’s clearance section a few months ago, and the other LED wire lights on the table were from Wal-Mart’s Christmas section. The gold, pink, and white tassel banner is from Amazon as well. The white square and rectangular serving trays are from Oriental Trading and are a hard plastic so you can use them over and over again. The pink and white striped cupcake cups are from Amazon, as are the pink and gold striped straws, and the white tiered server is from Hobby Lobby.
The milk bottles are actually up-cycled Starbucks frappacino bottles. I drank the coffee in them, washed then, removed the labels, and added a white paper around it. If you wanted to take it a step further, you could personalize the bottles or put stickers on them.
My favorite item on the table was the cookie letter H. All I did, was take a chip board letter H, cover it in icing, and put Cookie Crisp breakfast cereal on it. It was so easy to make, but I feel like it really brought the theme together – I just wish the store had a ‘1’ instead.
My baby girl had such a great time at her party! She loved her cupcake, enjoyed watching her big brother open her presents for her, and waved the tissue paper around. Being ONE is the best! Happy Birthday, sweet girl! Momma loves you!
