Why does it always feel like summer is so hard on my home? Maybe it’s because the kids are home, or maybe it’s because it’s so hot that I feel unmotivated, but after the kids go back to school and Labor Day comes around, I look around my house and feel so blah about it. The fall and winter always has such fun décor, but why doesn’t summer?
This Labor Day, I’m taking the time to refresh at least one room in my house and I’m choosing my master bedroom. It’s been seriously neglected (pretty much since we moved in 8 years ago) and it’s time for it to get a bit of a facelift!
Here’s a look at what I’m doing to spruce up this room that needs a little love. First off, I got these real marble lamp bases at an estate sale years ago. We re-wired them and now they’re good to go! I found these lampshades for them, but honestly, I need some that are a bit longer, so I’ll have to let you know when I find some like that.
Next up, bedding…starting with new pillows! New pillows always make a bed feel more comfy, don’t you think? I opted for these Serta Cooling Magic 2.0 pillows. In our house, we’re obsessed with the cold side of the pillow, and these magical pillows give you just that! They’re perfect for these warm months!
Speaking of cooling, I also got this pink Cooling Sheets Set from Columbia. Not only are they 300 thread count, but they also don’t hold onto heat, so you can be rest assured that every time you get into bed, those sheets are going to be perfectly cold and welcoming. I also love that they have a wide, elastic band all the way around, so they really hold tight onto the mattress and don’t come off. Don’t you hate it when that happens?
And lastly, a new quilt. I always like quilts during the summer because they’re not too warm to snuggle up with, but they still give you the weight that you want. This one is The Big One’s Reversible Quilt Set. It has this darker gray color on one side and white and gray stripes on the other side – so depending on your mood, you can change up what color you’d like to see on top of your bed.
I was also looking at Mohawk’s Memory Foam Bath Rug for the master bathroom, but I’m making myself just stick to one room at a time for now. And the Serta Memory Foam mattress toppers look amazing too – and they’re half off this weekend!
Kohls is having a home sale this weekend, so I was able to stock up on everything we needed at great sale prices (minus those dang oversized lampshades that I can’t seem to find anywhere)! They have quality home essentials at amazing prices and I was able to get all of this for under $200! If you’d like to see the full collections that are included in the White Sale from 8/22 to 9/3, you can check them out here: Serta, Columbia, The Big One, and Mohawk.
