I was not exactly the most athletic kid in school. I was in dance, band, choir, and a few leadership type organizations, but I learned my lesson with my athletic abilities when I was in junior high. I just wasn’t that good at any of the sports I tried! I mean, I loved playing volleyball and basketball, but I never made the “A” team for any of it. I was a solid “B” team player. I got to play a good majority of the time, and usually made a few baskets, but I was never quite good enough for that coveted “A” team. Looking back now, I know I just wasn’t aggressive enough. I wasn’t very good at blocking people or pushing them off of me. But you know what I can do? Throw a party!
Basketball season is upon us and what better way to watch all the free throws and alley-oops than with a basketball party at home. Of course, every party starts with the grocery list. For this game time celebration, I decided that we should have all the finger foods that are easy to pick up, eat, and share. So I headed to H-E-B to get all of the essentials. Along with the ingredients for my jalapeño ranch dip and French fries, I made sure to get some corn dogs as well. State Fair 100% Beef Corn Dogs are a good source of protein, so I loaded up on them. After all, they’re quick to prepare and they’re easy to eat with one hand while you cheer on your favorite team with the other! You can see more on this offer at H-E-B here. H-E-B is a Texas grocery store that has everything I need, so I like that I don’t have to make a bunch of trips to different grocery stores just for a few items.
Let’s talk about what I got. These State Fair 100% Beef Corn Dogs are good as is, but of course me being me means I like having at least one homemade item. The item for this basketball game was my jalapeño ranch dipping sauce. It’s perfect for dipping those perfectly golden corn dogs, spreading on burgers, drizzling over French fries, or slam dunking your popcorn chicken, or wings. Though I wouldn’t try getting a rebound off this one, because people aren’t likely going to share.
Here’s the lay-up on how to make it. No actual basketball skills required:
Ingredients:
- 1 pkg. (1 oz.) ranch dip mix
- 16 oz. sour cream (you can use light)
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 whole large jalapenos, seeded
- 1/3 cup fresh cilantro
- juice of one lime
- 2-4 tablespoons milk
Instructions
Roughly chop the jalapeños, cilantro and cloves. Add them to a food processor. Once it is well blended, add the lime juice, sour cream, and pulse until creamy. Add milk slowly until you’ve reached your desired consistency. I used almost 4 tablespoons. Enjoy!
Of course I like to offer more than one dipping sauce, so the unique flavors I compiled for the party went man to man. With no air balls allowed, we decided to face off and see which dip got the trophy. Of course mustard and ketchup were present, but along with that I added into the mix honey barbecue sauce, buffalo sauce, and of course, my jalapeño ranch dip. Which one do you think won?
That jalapeño ranch dipping sauce was nothing but net! Everyone loved it and I hope you do too!
