After you turn 30, birthdays just aren’t the same celebration they used to be – especially if you have kids. But for some reason, I thought this year, when I turned 32, was a great time to celebrate. I usually watch my birthday come and go and don’t feel any kind of way about it, but this year felt different. It may sound weird, but I finally feel like I’m becoming whom I was meant to be all along. I’m strong, confident, and ready to take on the world. Even though it may not be perfect, I’m happy at where I am in life.
So, let the birthday celebrations begin! I want to share a huge shout out to my friend Lauren from Toast From the Host for putting the event together, Sharespace for letting us use their venue, and By Vashti for photographing the day!
Brunch is my favorite meal of the day, so of course we brunched it up with delicious homemade goodies like mini pancakes, bacon skewers and a mimosa bar!
Honestly speaking, I felt a little selfish having a birthday party for myself. I am a background kind of person, not a limelight kind of person, so I wanted this party to benefit someone besides myself. This is why I asked my party guests to bring toiletry items and girly stuff to the party so we could wrap up these care packages for the ladies at the Women’s Center of Brazoria County! It was so fun putting the boxes together, decorating them, and writing little notes to them in hopes of lifting their spirits. I also figured all these fashion blogger friends of mine have a ton of stuff they’ve been given that would love to de-stash – and they did NOT disappoint! Toast from the Host made the most fabulous gift wrapping station to go with it too!
Like any good host, you simply have to give your guests something to leave with! That’s why I made these delicious smelling brown sugar scrubs! (To make these, all you do is mix equal parts brown sugar and coconut oil and add a bit of your favorite essential oil) Complete with watercolor tags that my son painted. What a good helper!
Thank you to everyone who contributed, came to the party, and those of you whom were there in spirit!
