My best friend Amanda and I just got back from Corpus Christi and we had THE best time.
Neither of us had ever been there before, so we had so much fun exploring the coastal town and seeing what this South Texas city was all about.
This lively beach town birthed Eva Longoria, Farrah Fawcett, Todd Oldham, and Selena. It is known for it’s beautiful water, gusty winds (seriously), and the best Mexican food you’ve ever had this side of the border.
Here’s a few recommendations for you if you find yourself heading to the South of Texas.
Where to Stay
You know I love my AirBnBs, but then again, I think it’s just because I like having the space and freedom to cook my own meals and relax away from people. Good news! Lively Beach on Mustang Island checks off all of those boxes.
Every room has a great view, comfy bed, wifi, and clean bathroom. It’s sleek, modern, and right on the beach! I was also really excited to see that they have everything you could ever want in your room – including a clothes steamer and fully stocked kitchen. I just hate it when you stay in a place that has a kitchen but nothing to actually cook with.
The pool is amazing. It’s huge and it’s the perfect place to relax and swim if the beach and sand isn’t necessarily your thing.

What to Do
When you’re literally on the beach, you’re going to want to do some water activities, right? Parasailing, wind surfing, and riding horses on the beach are a given. You can also go on a Red Dragon Pirate Cruise, swim with dolphins at the Dolphin Connection, or just rent a golf cart and watch the day go by.
If you’re looking for something a little more action packed, head over to Schitterbahn for some wet and wild fun, or throw a few axes at Armory Outfitters. More fun ideas include catching a baseball game at Whataburger Field, shopping downtown (I recommend Made in Corpus Christi), and buy some fresh fruits and veggies at the Farmer’s Market (every Wednesday Corpus Christi holds a Farmer’s Market downtown at the Art Center (100 N Shoreline) from 5:00pm-8:00pm).
What to See
Not sure what all there is to see in Corpus? Check out this list:
The USS Lexington and the Texas State Aquarium both located on North Beach are definitely must-see attractions. There’s so much history, marine life, and fun that you can easily spend a full day here.
If nature is your thing, you’ll want to head to Mustang Island State Park, Oso Bay Wetlands Preserve and Learning Center, and the South Texas Botanical Gardens & Nature Center.
Love the arts? Then the Selena Statue, Selena Museum, and Art Museum of South Texas should be on your list to see.
Educational trips can be fun too! How about checking out the Texas Surf Museum or the Corpus Christi Museum of Science and History?
Where to Eat
In Corpus, Seafood and TexMex are the name of the game. After all, when you’re so close to the Mexican border and the Gulf of Mexico, why wouldn’t they be?
One hole in the wall place I recommend is the Dragonfly. It doesn’t look like much from the outside, but their food was absolutely delicious! I recommend getting their filet mignon or crab cakes – and make sure to save room for the hot chocolate cake.
If you’re looking to eat where the locals eat, try Water Street Oyster Bar and Executive Surf Club. They’re right next to each other, so it one is busy, just head next door.
The best sunset views are at Doc’s Seafood and Steaks.
Want something Instagram worthy? Island Joe’s Coffee and Gallery is a unique coffee shop made of colorful shipping containers and Fajitaville on North Beach has cute swings that are perfect for a photo.
