Dutch Baby: An Easy To Make Breakfast Treat

There are some nights where I look in the fridge and I feel so uninspired for dinner. There may be a lot of random things in there and the pantry, but they don’t really seem to come together and jump out at me as a full meal.

One such night, I looked in the fridge and I had a few mixed berries and some eggs and I thought, ‘Hey, what about breakfast for dinner?’ Instead of cereal and milk, I remembered that I had this recipe I had been wanting to try for a while, so that was the night!

The recipe was for a Dutch Baby. A Dutch Baby reminds me of a fluffy crepe. The eggs in it puff up in a Dutch oven and create a soft, pillowy cloud for you to top with powdered sugar, berries, Nutella, or whatever you like!

Dutch Baby

A Dutch Baby is kind of like a big, fluffy crepe. The eggs in it puff up in a Dutch oven and create a soft, pillowy cloud for you to top with powdered sugar, berries, Nutella, or whatever you like!

Total Time 30 minutes mins
Course Breakfast, brunch
Cuisine American, French
Servings 2 servings

Ingredients

  • 3 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • powdered sugar
  • jam fresh fruit, or Nutella for serving

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 425 degrees. Place the Dutch oven in the oven with the butter in it in order to let it melt. When it has melted (approximately 1-2 minutes later), take the Dutch oven out and swirl the butter around the bottom and sides of the dish.
  • In a food processor, combine the eggs, flour, milk, sugar, vanilla, and salt. Blend until smooth. After it is blended, pour the mixture into Dutch oven and bake it for 18-20 minutes ( or until golden brown). After it's out of the oven, dust it with powdered sugar and top with your favorite ingredients.
