Sometimes, I say yes to going somewhere with my friends without even knowing what I’m getting myself into. I know I’ll have a good time because of the company I’m there with, but who knows what will actually transpire. This was definitely the case when I went with a friend to Wine & Food Week in The Woodlands, Texas last year. She invited me to the Sips, Suds, and Tacos event and the name alone made me say an immediate “Yes!” when she asked. I was not disappointed!
I have an obsession with tacos. Which, if you’ve seen my instagram, you already know. This was truly the fun part! The chefs were all competing for the best taco of the night and a local Houston restaurant won the title of best taco! (Although they were all seriously wonderful!)
Trying the wines and beers was fun too. At registration, you receive a tasting glass and a punch card. The punch card allows you to taste 5 different wines. Additional punch cards can be bought for a super reasonable fee. I have never seen so many wine companies in one place in my life. We wandered from table to table – mostly trying the moscatos (since that’s the majority of what I’ll drink in the way of wine). They also had a bunch of Texas breweries there for those who prefer beer (which is definitely not me).
If you’re looking to join me in attending this year’s Wine & Food Week, here’s the line-up of events:
June 4th from 7-9pm: It’s A Guy Thing
Host and Wine Wizard 2018 Guy Stout is only one of 215 Master Sommeliers in the world and one of the first in America. This event at The Woodlands Country Club Palmer Course is the manliest thing you’ll go to all year, with shoe shines, cigars, poker tables, live music, bold wines, craft beers, and hearty food. Tickets are $30 per person.
June 5th at 5:30pm: Dirt-y Talk with Oregon Wine Person of the Year – Seminar and Tasting
Interested in learning about the wines from farm to table? This the event for you! Rudi Marchesi from Montinore Estate will answer any all questions you have on the whole process-from start to finish! Tickets are $45 per person.
