Whether your kids are going back to school, home schooling, non-schooling, or whatever you decide is best for them, it’s important now more than ever to give their immune systems a boost. Here’s a few tips on how you can help your kids (and yourself too while you’re at it) ward off those “bugs” that are out there.
Eat Your Fruits and Veggies
I know, this should be a no-brainer. But the reality is that in a meat and potatoes world, sometimes vegetables get overlooked and that’s the last thing our bodies need. Make sure to get those fruits and veggies incorporated into your day to help maintain a healthy diet.
Get Active
After a long Spring/Summer that seemed like it would never end, the kids and I definitely fell off the wagon when it came to our daily activity levels. After all, here in Texas, the temps were over 100 degrees last week and the last thing I wanted to do was move any more than I had to.
But consider this your (and my) wake up call! Our bodies can fight off bugs a whole lot easier if we’re taking care of ourselves physically.
Drink Water
Sip, sip, hooray! If you’re a woman, you should be drinking around 11.5 cups of water per day. Men should be drinking around 15 cups a day. And depending on their age, kiddos should be drinking anywhere from 2 cups to 8 cups per day. So, infuse it with fruit, add a little water flavoring, or do whatever you need to do in order to get those fluids in!
Add Dietary Supplements
Vitamins and dietary supplements are always a good idea. They help keep your body in balance get those nutrients you may not be getting otherwise in your normal diet. One supplement I’ve heard friends swear by is elderberry. People have told me about how it helps when they are feeling icky or even as a preventative measure to keep germs at bay.
Having never tried it before, Sambucol sent some of their elderberry gummies and syrup. The gummies are to be taken daily (like a multivitamin) and tasted like a tangy blueberry. They were actually pretty tasty and both of my kids liked the flavor. They’re a vegan product and are only 1g of sugar per gummy.
The syrup can be used in different recipes – so be sure to check some of those out on Sambucol’s blog. You can find Sambucol products at Target, CVS, Walmart, Walgreens, GNS, The Vitamin Shoppe, Ralphs, Vons, Safeway, and Kroger.
