Love, Comfort, and Tea.

Some of my favorite times as a child were with my mom at a local tea room, The Pear Tree. The tea room is no longer there, but the impact of that tiny little building with only 6 tables will forever be etched in my heart. You see, the only time we went there was for mommy-daughter dates. We would eat finger sandwiches and drink tea with our pinkies out. I remember my mom would put an ice cube in my tea cup so that it would cool my tea faster.

When that little tea room closed, they gave their patrons the recipe so that we could continue the tea tradition on our own. Over the years, we have always had the mix pre-made and stored in air-tight containers. When you have a sore throat, you drink the tea. When it’s cold outside, you drink the tea. This tea is intertwined with my childhood, my adulthood, and now my kids’ lives as well. It has been gifted in jars to others at Christmas time, offered to guests during the winter month festivities, and was even boxed up and sent in a care package to me when I was away at college. If you’ve guessed it by now, this tea is not just a beverage; it’s a representation of love, comfort, and so much more. And so, here I will pass that delicious recipe (and love) on to you.

Ingredients

  • 27 oz Tang
  • 1 lb. light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup instant tea (Lipton or Luzianne works best)
  • 1 tsp cinnamon

Step One. Mix all of the ingredients together. And that’s it! Just keep it in an air-tight container until you’re ready to use it.

For individual servings, you’ll want to mix 2 heaping tablespoons to 8 ounces of hot/boiling water.

I hope this tea brings you joy and comfort like it has me.
