My husband and I were recently in California and we had about 10 hours to kill before we had to fly home. If you ever find yourself in LA for less than a day like we did on a recent trip, here’s the low-down on what you just have to do and see.
Breakfast. Head to Bea Bea’s. They’ve got everything your carb-loving heart could desire and for a fair price. I opted for the Belgian waffles with strawberries and they were delicious. Plus, it’s only about 10 minutes from Universal Studios.
Universal Studios. Let me just start by saying, Universal is not my thing. I am a Disney girl all day, every day, so if I had had my way, we would have went there. However, I love my husband very much and he was dying to see the Harry Potter section there. He has read all of the books, seen the movies countless times, and I typically leave the room when it’s on. It’s just not my thing. But I love seeing how child-like he gets at silly things like that, so we went. Get there when it opens. They also have special passes you can buy that will allow you to get in an hour before the general ticket holders.
Hollywood. When in Rome, right? In my opinion, Hollywood Blvd is gross. It’s littered with shady characters, seedy-looking businesses with bars on the windows, and a few “characters” dressed in costume trying to get a few dollars out of the tourists. But then again, if you’re in Hollywood, you have to see Grauman’s Chinese Theater and the Walk of Fame stars – you just have to. But another unsung hero on Hollywood Blvd is the Ghirardelli store. They have them in several locations in the US, but none where we live, so when we see one, we make a bee-line for it. Their ice cream and chocolatey goodies are unmatched. My husband, always the purist, gets a chocolate shake every time, while I prefer the mint chocolate chip ice cream.
After that, we had to catch our flight, but we had such a great day enjoying the perfect weather and living spontaneously like we used to before we had kids. No matter the amount of time you have in visiting any city, make sure you have a plan going in, so you can see as much as possible and make it worth your while.
