“Getting Away” Close to Home

“Getting Away” Close to Home

Sometimes, you just need to get away – not go far, but just enough that you feel like you’re someplace different. Four hours South of where we live is Port Aransas, Texas. This is a skinny little island off the Texas coast, right above Corpus Christi and South Padre Island.

After riding the ferry ride over from the mainland to the island, I immediately fell in love with the cute, beachy homes that lined the shore. While there, we stayed in a great community called Cinnamon Shores. They had beautiful homes, condos, and rental properties right on the water. In the center of the property, they had a building that rented out golf carts (how everyone gets around on the island) and bicycles, a restaurant, and a nice lawn area with a stage.

We also got to head down the beach to Texas Sand Fest – a festival where professional sand artists and amateurs get to show off their skills. There were some really neat animals, castles, and all sorts of sand sculptures!

We had a great weekend, but I think the best moment was after my husband and I had put the kids to bed and we sat on the balcony listening to the guitar player that was playing on the lawn stage. It was a great way to unwind and not think about our busy schedules and deadlines, and just breathe and enjoy each other for a few moments, which, is why we go on vacation in the first place, right?
