Over the weekend, my hubby and I visited Ventura, California. After driving in from the Los Angeles airport, we were starving! That LA traffic is no joke, yall! No matter what time of day or day of the week, you’re going to be going under the speed limit on a highway. But that’s another story for another blog post. Anyways, so by the time we reached Ventura (about an hour and a half away), we were beyond ready to eat. The hubs found a restaurant on Yelp called Spencer Makenzie’s Fish Co. The name was not so enticing to me, but the reviews all looked good so we decided to try it out.

Oh my gosh, y’all. Everything we ordered was outstanding! Here’s a little breakdown of what we had.

Shrimp Won Tons. Won tons are won tons, right? Typically when you get them from a Chinese restaurant, they have tiny specks of actual meat in them and they’re overly hard and just not very good. But these guys were delicious!

World Famous Fish Tacos. One of my favorite things to get in California every time I go is fish tacos. It doesn’t matter where I am, I just need them in my life. So with the vast amounts of fish tacos I’ve eaten in my life, these are definitely some of the best. I now see why they call them ‘World Famous’ because they’re pretty dang good. I chose the grilled option, but you could get fried fish as well. Make you sure you try some of their sauces on them as well. My favorite was the Sweet Chili Fire (which sounds way more spicy than it is).

Seasoned Fries. Nothing special here. Buy some extra won tons with your money instead 🙂

They also have a happy hour where they serve $.50 won tons, $3 fries and $5 mixed veggies tempura. If you’re there on a Monday through Thursday, make sure to stop by around 3-5pm for their two for one deal on their World Famous Fish Tacos.

So if you ever find yourself in the area, definitely stop their place, sit on the patio, and enjoy some yummy fish tacos with a beer.
