Hear ye, hear ye! The Texas Renaissance Festival is in town and if you’re looking for a medieval good time, now is your chance. Every weekend in in October through the Friday after Thanksgiving, you can drive into the woods and enter the stone gates into a world of court jesters, royal banquets, and dueling knights. It is such a great experience and if you’ve never been to the Renaissance Festival before, here’s a little glimpse into what you’ll see while you’re there.
Food
Important stuff first – the food. Of course, the first thing you might think of is turkey legs or funnel cakes, but the Texas Renaissance Festival boasts a whole lot more than that! Whatever you’re in the mood for – be it Chinese food, Greek, a sweet treat, you will find it there. You can also find a plethora of drink options. There’s beer, wine, and soda – and even a mead tasting or two!
Games & Activities
Let’s talk games! There are fun things for all ages! There’s a playground, pirate ship, giant swings, pony rides, darts, a carousel, and even a giant rocking horse! Some of our favorites were archery and the kids’ jousting, so be sure to check those out!
Shopping
Texas Ren Fest has some of the coolest shops to grab a few wares at! Whether you just want a little momento from your visit or you’re in the market for a full knights of the round table costume, the shopping here is unmatched. I also love that they have scheduled shows where you can watch the local artisans make everything from brooms to glass blowing – all right in front of you
Performances and Shows
The shows at the renaissance festival are really the crown jewels of the whole event. These actors are everywhere – from up in the trees acting like Peter Pan to down on the streets juggling knives. And then there’s the scheduled performances too. In the many outdoor theaters around the grounds, you can see birds of prey take flight, watch a jousting match, hear the cracks of a fire whip, or catch a full steel combat match between knights. If you’re looking for something a little more laid back, there’s also many bands that play throughout the day, so no matter your excitement level, there’s something for you to see.
I hope you’re able to make it out to the Texas Renaissance Festival this year and see some of the things I showed you here in person. It’s such a fun experience for the whole family!
