Oh summertime, you’re so close I can almost smell you! I’m oh so ready for days spent under the sun and outdoors! We love getting together with friends over the summer. I don’t know what it is, but backyard barbecues and picnics always seem to be more fun then.

What I don’t love about the summer is our sweltering heat here in Houston. Man oh man, does it seem to get hot fast. So things like ice cream and snow cones are eaten at record speed in order to beat the inevitable melting that will occur. Springtime seems to be the perfect time of year – it’s not too hot and not too cold – usually the weather cooperates and is just right.

But since you never know what it’s going to be like, I thought I’d come up with a way to keep your drinks cold while you’re enjoying those outside activities – without diluting your drink! Is it possible? Why, yes it is – let be break it down for you. The way to do it is to flavor your ice. Now, I don’t mean you just put some sugar in some water and freeze it – oh no! I mean, you use natural fruit juices and blends that will further enhance your beverage of choice.

I also like to use fruit juices because it keeps your drinks from getting too overly sweet or increase your calorie intake. And if your drink is something like a Smirnoff Spiked Sparkling Seltzer, this will be the perfect addition to keep you cool and refreshed this summer. Smirnoff offers a party pack of flavors including Watermelon, Cranberry Lime, Orange Mango, and Berry Lemonade.

Ready for the recipe on how to make these tasty cubes? Here you go…

Strawberry Ice

What you’ll need:

  • 1 cup sliced strawberries
  • blender/food processor
  • ice cube tray

How to make them:

You’ll add the sliced strawberries to your food processor and blend until all the pieces have been fully blended. Transfer the blended strawberries to an ice cube tray and freeze for about 4 hours, or until fully frozen solid.

You’ll want to add a drink that won’t overpower the ice, like
Smirnoff Spiked Sparkling Seltzer
‘s Berry Lemonade. These slim, 12 ounce cans* have zero sugar and only 90 calories, so they’re the perfect addition to make this a Spring time cocktail to sip by the pool.

You can find these Smirnoff premium malt beverages at your local grocery store in the refrigerated section in the same aisle as the beer and wine.
