Here we go, folks. Whether you’re trapped at home for a hurricane or tornado, or it’s mandated by the city you live in because of the Corona Virus, I’ve compiled a list of things you can do both indoors and outdoors of your home – away from the masses of people. Hopefully this list will help you pass the time and save your sanity with the kids home from school.
Learn Something New
Makeup Tutorial
Have you been wanting to try something new with your makeup? This is the time! So get that eye shadow palette out and get to it!
Teach Yourself a New Skill
Youtube has all the tutorials and skill-building tools you could ever need! Learn a few chords on the guitar, how engines work, or even how to solve a Rubik’s Cube.
Start listening to a new podcast
There are new podcast episodes everyday, so whether you want to learn more about growing your business or hearing a story about a serial killer, there’s something for everyone.
Science Experiments
Keep the learning going with these easy science experiments that you can do at home with household products!
Try a New Hair Tutorial
Want to do something different with your hair? Have you been eyeing a new braiding technique that you’d like to try? Now is the time to try them out!
In the Kitchen
Try a New Recipe
Have a few recipes that you’ve pinned in Pinterest? Now is the time to try them out! And if you don’t have one you like, check out the recipes on my blog here! I recommend this Brown Sugar Bread Pudding.
Bake a Loaf of Bread From Scratch
Have you ever made bread from scratch? Whether it’s french bread or moist banana bread, anything warm out of the oven is sure to make you one happy camper!
Host a Family Cooking Competition
This one is so fun! Take a few ingredients and create teams – one that creates the best recipe wins (and the loser does the dishes)!
Build a Tower
All you’ll need for this one is marshmallows and toothpicks. See how intricate you can make your structures. If you’re a competitive group, compete to make the tallest tower!
Wine Tasting
Have a few different types of wine you’ve been hoarding? Why not try them out? Taste and see which ones you like best, which ones pair well with certain foods, and which ones you don’t want to purchase again.
Around the House
Spring Cleaning
You know you need to clean out your closet. Time to purge and rid of the things that are taking up space in your home!
Organize a Space
A major cause of stress is being surrounded by clutter, so use this time to clean it up! Organize your office, kid’s bedroom, or even *gasp* that kitchen junk drawer.
Reconcile your Bank Account
Use this time to get your finances in order!
Puzzles
Puzzles are always a good way to pass the time. My favorite are the Ravensburger Jigsaw Puzzles because of their interesting pictures and quality of the pieces.
Board Games
If you want to pass the time and incorporate a little family fun, board games are definitely the way to do it!
Read a Book
You know you have some books on the shelf you’ve been meaning to crack open. Get it off the shelf and get it open!
Spa/Pamper Day
Say, have you been taking care of yourself as well as you should be? Use this time to paint your nails, whiten your teeth, give yourself a facial, exfoliate, and moisturize!
Deep Clean your House
This is it, folks. This is the time you’ve been avoiding – it’s finally time to clean all of those spaces in your home that require you to get on your hands and knees and scrub, wipe, and disinfect. I know you don’t want to, but you’ll feel so accomplished after you do!
Get Crafty
Create a Vision Board
I have to admit, I’ve never done this, but I’m excited to get to over the next week! Use magazine articles, photos, etc to create a visual representation of goals, things you’re working towards, and images that inspire you.
Create a List of Family Goals
Use this time as a family (or alone) to reset and refocus on your goals. Where do you want to be in 5 years? What do you want to accomplish?
Make Greeting Cards
This is such a good time to create some cards that you can send to those people in your life on their birthday, anniversary, when they’re getting over an illness, etc. If you want to make it fancy, I have tutorials here on how to make a custom envelope, custom envelope liner, and delicate wax seals.
Write a Letter
Chances are, you know someone who might be feeling a little lonely during this time. Why not write them a letter or a little note of encouragement? Emails and texts are great, but snail mail is best!
Screen Time
Video Games
This is the moment your kids have been waiting for – when you beat them at their own video game! Get to know their games and enjoy them together.
Movie Night
Getting together to watch a movie is a perfect nighttime activity. Everyone can calm down from the day. Want to up the ante? Making it a theme night makes it even more fun – think Lady & the Tramp and serve spaghetti and meatballs for dinner. Popcorn is not optional.
Outdoors
Throw the Frisbee Outside
Don’t assume that being under quarantine means that you have to stay inside all day. As long as the weather is nice, get outside! Frisbees are relatively cheap and fun for all ages.
Sidewalk Chalk
It’s time to turn all of that boring concrete into a canvas! Get out your sidewalk chalk and get creative! In our family, we love making portraits of each other.
Have a Backyard Camp Out
Get out the tents and sleeping bags and set up camp…in the backyard! A change of scenery is always great for having a good time together!
Make a Fairy Garden
Have you heard of these miniature gardens? They’re full of tiny items, glitter, and imagination! Make one at your house so you enjoy it too. Here’s a few ideas of what you can include in yours.
Wash the Car
One day it rains and the next day the pollen hits. Get to scrubbing and get that car cleaned up!
Pressure Wash the Driveway
This one is so therapeutic for me! I’ll let you decide if you want to do it before or after the sidewalk chalk art though.
Plant Flowers/ Herb Garden
Planting flowers and herbs are great because they don’t take up much room. Enjoy being in the sunshine and working with your hands!
Backyard Picnic
Take a blanket and food outside! Talk about what shapes the clouds look like, see if there’s any ladybugs in your yard, and enjoy doing something out of the ordinary!
