Is your mouth ready for some cheesy goodness? Then have I got the place for you! I’ve passed Tom + Chee several times when traveling along I-10, and I finally had the opportunity to go a couple weeks ago…and then again last week. That’s how addicting it is.
So, I thought the place sounded familiar, but then I realized I saw them on Shark Tank a few years ago! But I’m getting ahead of myself…
In December of 2009, Trew and Corey emptied their bank accounts, bought a tent and a griddle, and started their American dream. They set up camp by Cincinnati’s Fountain Square where they fed hundreds of cold ice skaters every day. Their specialty? The grilled cheese doughnut. And then came the BBQ bacon and the grilled cheese with potato chip crunch. Sounds like it would be perfect college food, right?
Exactly a year later, they opened their first brick and mortar store. Six months after that, they opened up a second store.
In 2013, their fame exploded when they went on Shark Tank and Barbara Corcoran gave them a deal. Since then, they have been named one of America’s best new sandwiches by NBC’s the Today Show, as well as many other accolades.
So that’s their story, but are they really good? I’m here to say that yes, yes they are. Dangerously good, in fact.
Here’s some of what I experienced:
Next time I find myself on that side of town, I plan on trying the grilled cheese doughnut, the mac and cheese T&C, and some of their dessert items. I can’t wait!
