I love going out and trying new restaurants and activities around town, don’t you? It’s always neat to experience new things, try new foods, and explore different areas of the Houston area. I am the first to admit though that when it comes to pampering myself, I am the world’s worst. I just don’t do it as often as I probably should. I paint my own nails, only get haircuts when I’m absolutely fed up with my hair, and I might get a massage after photographing a long wedding the weekend prior. But I decided to do something for myself this past Saturday!
Midtown Med Spa had an event where we got to try out a few of their services. Right from the moment I heard about it, the massage was calling my name. I might have been so excited at the thought of it that I was the first one there. Lol! So I sat in the massage chair and Ryan worked his magic on my shoulders and neck. Funny story, I found out we were from the same high school and graduated 2 years apart. Small world! I wasn’t planning on doing it, but Randee convinced me to try the Botox. That’s right. You read that correctly. I tried Botox. It’s never even been on my radar as a procedure to get, but I have to say it was painless, quick, and easy. I didn’t have deep-set wrinkles in my face beforehand so I couldn’t really tell a difference after it was all said and done, but I heard other women ‘wow’ing at their results.
Susan from Meditation Beginnings also led the group in a 10 minute meditation. She started us off by telling us about what it is and why it’s important. Susan described meditation as a way of resetting the brain throughout the day, so that if you’re faced with an obstacle (someone cuts you off while driving, irritates you at work, or something like that), it’s a way to reboot. She guided us through a progression of relaxation of the muscle groups from our foreheads to our toes. It’s amazing what parts of your body you can connect with when you think about them. I can’t say that I think about specific body parts as part of my daily routine – unless of course they ache. She explained that the more you meditate, the easier it is to bring that state of being – that calmness – into your daily life more often and easily. The technique of taking a deep breath, stepping back from the situation, and not reacting right away is a great practice to maintain. I guess I never really though about incorporating it into my daily routine before, but I can clearly see its benefits. I definitely felt calm and relaxed afterwards, which is not something I feel often.
Lastly, Susan from The Foodie Chef had some tasty goodies for us to nibble. From sweet potato rounds and savory palmiers to bacon wrapped dates, she had it all covered!
Thanks Mad Meg for putting this all together!
