How to Save Money on Your Modern Farmhouse Tablescape

I’ll be the first to admit that I spend way too much on kitchen gadgets and dining room serveware. I can’t help it though, I just love it! So in an effort to save money, I’ve started looking around my home for ways I can re-purpose items I already own and incorporate them into my tablescapes. I’ll show you an example from the Hurried Hostess Retreat that I used for brunch the last day.

Plates. Buy plates in neutral colors. That way, you can use them for anything and add color to the table in other ways. I want to own plates in all the colors of the rainbow, but I know I shouldn’t (nor do I have the room or budget for that).

Linen Napkins. Yes, I know it’s another thing to wash, but there really is no substitution for the feel of a cloth napkin on your lap. And after a good washing, you can use over and over again until they wear out!

Decor. Use what you already have around your house! I love the little metal lanterns on the stationary, and I just so happen to have some real ones on my patio table, so I brought them along. I also used a galvanized tray I already had, a metal drink dispenser stand and a wooden crate and filled it with fresh peaches.

Fruits and Veggies. I love incorporating fruits and veggies in my tablescapes. After all, we’ll just eat them eventually anyway, so we might as well use them for decor and get double duty out of them!

Pick one “splurge” item. You want to have element of your table be a wow factor, so whatever that is, decide on it ahead of time and then have all the other elements work around that. It can be a beautiful flower arrangement, a printed detailed menu and place card, or even a little gift set at each place setting.

I hope these tips help you save a little money and help take your meals up a notch! Why spend money on extra stuff you’ll only use once when you can use these easy tips to use what you already have and make a more memorable table?
