Planning a Walt Disney Trip is not for the faint at heart. There’s so much to do and see while you’re there – and a lot of it depends on decisions you will make before you even leave your house! So if you’re not sure where to begin, this is the place! Here’s a little insight on when to visit the parks and where to stay.
When to Go
You definitely want to go at an off peak time. Not during the holidays. The best times to go are in February and during the 4th of July.
The absolute last times you want to go are the end of July and August = that’s when the parks are at their peak points.
Where to Stay (Off site)
AirBnB.You know I love AirBnB. The range of places you can stay in is limitless! Want to camp in someone’s back yard? That’s available. Want your own private villa for the weekend? You can do that too! We found the most amazing 7 bed location (with a pool!) that was less than $300 a night.
You can also use a website like Booking.com to help you find nearby places to stay at reasonable prices. Some of these hotels, like the Marriott Grande Vista or the Marriott Harbour Lake have activities for the kids there as well, so they won’t miss out on any of the fun. And if you have Marriott Rewards, you can use your points there! Score! Use this link to see what Booking.com has available in Orlando now.
Where to Stay (On Site)
- Art of Animation (suite)
- Polynesian (Bungelows or Villas Studios). The Villas usually have more space and more in-room bathrooms – and are roughly the same price.
- To get the best experience for the least amount of money, stay at a Moderate Resort during Free Dining. That allows you to pay the least expensive nightly rates, get free food (including the Basic Dining Plan which is better than what’s offered at Value Resorts) and visit during a less busy time.
- If you want your kids to stay in separate beds in the same room, you’ll want to book a bunkbeds room at the Animal Kingdom Lodge, murphy bed option at Art of Animation or All-Star Music suites, Fort Wildnerness Cabins, or Port Orleans Riverside rooms in the Alligator Bayou section.
Extra – When you’re staying on site, you can request a character wake up call.
How Much Time to Allot for Each Park
- If staying in an on-site resort near Magic Kingdom or Epcot, consider spending the first part of your day at a park and then the evenings at the park that you’re staying near to save transportation time.
- People staying at Boardwalk/Epcot-area resorts (Beach Club, Yacht Club, Swan, Dolphin and Boardwalk) should think about buying Park Hopper tickets to take advantage of being so close to Epcot. Consider spending the first part of the day at another park, and then head over to Epcot in the evenings to eat at a restaurant and explore a few of the countries
