What to Do in Georgetown, Texas

Small towns outside of big cities are the best places to travel to.

27 miles North of Austin, Texas you’ll find the city Georgetown, Texas. It’s a mid-sized city with a small town feel – especially in their historic district which includes the voted most beautiful town square in Texas.

Ready to see what Georgetown has to offer? Here’s a few recommendations:

Things to Do for a Family in Georgetown

Hiking at Cedar Breaks Park. For only $5 entry per car, you can go hiking, fishing, camping, boating, and swimming. The hiking was an intermediate level, so I wouldn’t recommend it if you have any health issues, but the park itself is open year round, so you’ll have plenty of chances to go visit. My advice: take a sack lunch with you and enjoy the sights. It’s beautiful hiking around Lake Georgetown and you’ll want to soak it all in.

Wolf Ranch Farmer’s Market. Every Saturday morning at the Wolf Ranch shopping center you’ll find a great little farmer’s market with local artisans and farmers selling their wares. Stop by between 8:30am and 1pm to grab a bite to eat, a coffee, fresh grown produce, handcrafted items, and lots of smiling faces. Check out their facebook page before you go to see what vendors will be there, or just show up and be surprised.

Town Square. When a city has the coveted title of most beautiful town square in Texas, you know you’re going to need to spend some time there. And you absolutely should! All around the square, you’ll find restaurants, boutiques, coffee shops, and more. Everywhere you look, there’s people sitting listening to musicians, having a cold drink, or playing frisbee with their friends. There’s also swimming at the Blue Hole, taking a historic home tour, checking out the red poppies, and catching a movie at the Palace Theater. It’s like something out of a Hallmark movie and I love it.

Sweet Eats Fruit Farm. This place is such a bargain at only $12.99 per person. If you to the farm, expect to be there anywhere from 3-5 hours because there’s just so much to see and do! Some of the kids’ favorite activities were the pedal carts, pony rides, petty zoo, pig races, tire mountain, and bounce pads. Next time, we’ll pick some strawberries to take hoe with us as well.

D-Bat Baseball & Softball Academy. This indoor training facility is fun for your little leaguer, college draft hopeful, or even just a couple of parents who want to do something different with their Friday night. They have cage rentals, private lessons, and personal training available, so whatever your skill level, they can help.

Inner Space Cavern. This cavern system was discovered by a core drilling team in 1963  and opened to the public for tours in 1966. Whatever your adventure level, they have a tour for you. Their base tour is an easy walking tour through the caverns with a guide. Their other tours are guided as well and some even require cave-dwellers to wear headlamps and crawl on their hands and knees. Don’t worry about weather when visiting – the caves stay a constant 72 degrees tear round, but it feels like 80 degrees because of the 98% humidity. Your family is going to love the caves – it was even our son’s favorite activity over everything else we did while on our trip!

Where to Eat in Georgetown

600 Degrees Pizza. This cute corner pizza joint has been baking North Beach pies since 1966. They have over 30 beers on tap and seating is first come first serve – so be prepared for a bit of a wait. The pizza here can’t be beat –  and you can get either giant pizza slices or 12″ signature whole pizzas. If pizza isn’t your thing, you can also get wings and garlic knots (which I highly recommend).

Fuego Latino Gastropub. Right off Town Square is this delicious Latin restaurant. They serve lunch, dinner, and Sunday brunch, but make sure you have a reservation before you go. Also, if you’re a mezcal fan, you’ll want to order the Fuego House. It’s a delicious mezcal margarita that is smoky and super smooth.

South Fork Food Truck Park. If you want a relaxed family atmosphere for dinner, this is the place to go. This food truck park has several different types of cuisines available (perfect for when everyone wants something different for dinner), and it’s a great place for families with kids or pets because it has a great playground for the kids to play on, it’s all fenced in, and there’s plenty of shaded tables to sit and eat at. If you go, make sure it’s on a Friday or Saturday night, because they have live music and it’s sure to be a good time!

Places to Stay in Georgetown

Stone Oak Ranch RV Resort. If you’re taking an RV, this is our favorite place to stay. It’s safe, quiet, the WiFi is fast, and it’s perfect for families with kids and pets.
