Oh how I love France. The people there weren’t necessarily the nicest, but man oh man I could eat my wait in French food and die a very happy woman. And the architecture and history is just breathtaking! Today I’m showing you the places you absolutely must see and experience while you’re there.
Eiffel Tower (La Tower Eiffel)
Built for the 1889 World’s Fair, this ionic spectacle stands over 300 feet high and can be seen from all over Paris. If you’d like to go up in the tower to see the restaurants and shops, you’ll have to buy a ticket. Also make sure you see it at night. It sparkles!
It’s a healthy walk from the Eiffel Tower to see her, but it’s such a great reminder of where our Lady Liberty came from.
Louvre Museum (Musee de Louvre)
This is one GIANT museum. It is filled with artwork like the Mona Lisa (which, by the way, is only an 8×10 portrait – I thought it would be much bigger), Venus de Milo, and Winged Victory. The museum itself is gorgeous as well, so make sure to look up at the ceilings! You will need two full days if you want to see everything.
If you appreciate art, this is another place to go – if you haven’t had enough after wandering around the Louvre. Here, you’ll see works from Monet, Renoir, Degas, and Van Gogh – it’s truly remarkable how much art Paris can pack into one city!
Love Lock Bridge (Le Pont des Arts)
The Love Lock Bridge is where people from all over the world come with their lover and attach a lock to this bridge. They write sweet notes or momentos on the locks, and then throw away the keys. This bridge has plexiglass over it now, so no new locks can be added, but there are several other bridges where people have started placing their locks as well.
The Catacombes (Les Catacombes De Paris)
There’s a whole lot of bones down there. It’s one of those places that you should go to experience, but once you’ve seen it, you’re good. Also, make sure to wear comfortable shoes because you’ll be going up and down a lot of staircases and walk about 2 miles while you’re down there.
Luxembourg Garden (Jardin du Luxembourg)
If you’re looking to visit an immaculate garden, then this is the place. It is perfectly manicured with beautiful statues scattered throughout.
Notre Dame Cathedral (Cathedrale Notre-Dame de Paris)
This is one of the most beautiful cathedrals I have ever seen in my life. You could literally stare at the outside for hours alone and be completely entertained with all of the different scenes you can pick out in the carvings. But make sure to go inside as well. It’s a beautiful array of stained glass, more impressive architecture, and religious symbols.
For a few Euros, you can take the steps to the top of the monument, but the view from below is quite impressive as well. Below the arch, there is buried the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier from World War I.
Picasso was an artist all his own. This museum highlights his range of works and is really interesting to see.
This street is my jam. There’s tons of designer stores, restaurants, and places to wander and spend a few hours, but my favorite place on this street is LaDuree. Wait in line in for the macarons. They’re worth it.
Palace of Versailles (Chateau de Versailles)
I absolutely love this place. Every square inch of it is ornately painted or guilded in gold. You’ll also want to check out the immaculate gardens outside. It’s a ways out of the city (about 30 minutes), so you’ll need to get a rental car or taxi to get out to Versailles.
This is no ordinary shopping mall. The stained glass ceiling is a sight to see! And if you go out on the roof, you get (in my opinion) the best view of the city.
This museum has beautiful art pieces, vaulted ceilings, and all the opulence you want in a Parisian Museum.
When the Senate is not in session, make sure to check out this beautiful building!
This building was originally built to try to “out do” ST. Peter’s in Rome and St Paul’s in London. And it definitely stands its own next to them.
And lastly, while you’re there, you have to eat. Get the macarons, pastries, crepes – all of it! Enjoy yourself and don’t forget to relax!
