To say that life has been hard lately is a bit of an understatement. So many things in my life are a daily struggle and making time to breathe, let alone talk to my heavenly father, is hard. Thanking God for the difficulties I’m dealing with is even harder. A lot of times people say, “God doesn’t give you anything you can’t handle”. I call BS. In my life, God has given me way more than I can handle – and the only way I made it through it was by relying on His grace to get me through it.
Usually, when I’m going through a rough patch, my prayers sound a little something like this:
“Dear Lord, give me the right words to say…”
“Heavenly Father give me peace through this difficult time…”
“God, I feel like I’m drowning and I can’t catch my breath. I need you…”
Do your prayers sound anything like mine? No matter the situation, I want to assure you that God hears your pleas. He may not answer them the way that you’d like, but His ways are always better than our ways. “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,”
declares the Lord. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” Isaiah 55:8-9
I have to say, those verses in Isaiah give me a lot of peace. Yes, I don’t know what’s in store for my future, but I do know that I have an amazing God on my side who has way better plans for me than I ever could have dreamed of.
Whatever you are wading in right now, no matter how low, worthless, unloved, uneducated, weak, poor, or lonely you feel – I want to remind you that God has your back. He is there. Even if you may not feel like it, God is preparing you to receive His blessings in a big way. But here’s the catch – you have to rely on Him to get it. Don’t you love a “catch”? God knows I’m a planner and I love knowing every detail and plan in place, so this is a huge thing for me to give to Him to handle. I am not in control. You are not in control. He is. And he will see you through whatever is going on in your life – no matter how hopeless it may seem. He loves you. He cares for you. He wants the best for you.
If you’re looking for a couple good books to help you through a rough patch, I recommend “You’ll Get Through This” by Max Lucado and “5 Habits of a Woman Who Doesn’t Quit” by Nicki Koziarz. They’re easy to read and have really helped me through a lot.
