I love getting my hands dirty and making something myself. DIY home decor projects are my absolute favorite because you can spend way less money (usually) by making it yourself and it also feels good when your guests point it out and compliment you on it. This past weekend’s craft project was working on some room decor for little miss. Her room is nautical themed, so I wanted to make something with wood but without being too dark. What I came up with was a wooden letter ‘H’. Here’s how to make it for yourself:
What you’ll need
- hot glue gun
- chipboard letter/number (you could also cut cardboard into a shape in a pinch)
- sticks
- wood shears
Step One. Find some wood. I tried to stay around the same size in diameter, but it’s your craft, so you can do whatever you like. You can also buy sticks in a bag. I’m not even kidding. Cut the wood into pieces long enough to cover up the chipboard. I was lucky and used an ‘H’ which has all straight lines. Curvy lines or lines that have more joints in it might be a little bit more tedious to make.
Step Two. Glue the wood down onto the chipboard. I laid all of my wood out on the chip board before I ever started gluing. You’ll also want to make sure the sticks don’t have loose bark or any protruding pieces to it. If it does, just glue down a side that is smooth so it adheres to the chip board correctly.
That’s it! From here, you can personalize it a little more by adding ribbon, lush green moss, or artificial flowers. The possibilities are endless, really! I think I’ll be making a wreath like one of these next Christmas and making it sparkle a bit. Hmm…we’ll see.
How would you make this craft project your own?
