DIY Embroidered Christmas Gift Tags

These ornate, hand made embroidered gift tags are perfect for any gift of any size this Christmas holiday! With a few simple supplies, you can make these ornate details for your friends that they're sure to love!
Servings: 12 tags

Ingredients

  • 1 large-eye stitching needle
  • 1 piece styrofoam block
  • embroidery floss (thread)
  • printed paper tags Find free printable below
  • 1 small hole punch

Instructions

  • Print out this free gift tag printable that includes 6 different tags you can make. You'll want to use a card stock or higher weight paper for this (and not regular computer paper). Cut out the tags.
  • Place a tag on a piece of styrofoam. Using a needle, pierce the paper tag through each of the paper dots.
  • Cut a strand of embroidery floss to about 3 feet long. Starting at one end of the strand, wrap the thread around your finger a couple times. Roll the thread over itself and together toward the end of your finger. Once it's off your finger, pull it tight. It should result in making a knot.
  • Thread the needle and pull the thread through the back of one of the pierced holes. The knot should be on the back side of your tag.
  • Using whatever pattern you like, weave the thread through the holes on your paper tag. There is no wrong way to do this, but I've found that if you keep it to a pattern, it typically turns out looking better.
  • Once you've completed the design, make sure the end of the floss is on the back side of your tag. Weave the thread through threads on the back side and make a simple knot to finish it off and keep it from unraveling.
  • Cut the excess tring off and use to fix the tag to a package. Repeat for the other steps and have fun!
