The Best Dang Chili Recipe

Do your kids have a favorite meal that you make? At our house, my son always requests chili. It could be 100 degrees outside, but chili is  always the request…or hamburgers of course.

Over the years, I’ve probably made about a hundred different “best chili recipes”. Every single one of them claiming to be the best. And then I’ve made chili some nights where I just winged it and threw in some ingredients and hope for the best.

This recipe here is one that I’ve perfected with lots of trial and error and when I made it last night, the dinner table was silent from everyone eating. SO I’m not calling it miracle chili or anything, but I will say that it’s an easy chili recipe and the chili seasoning is perfection.

So whether you put it in your chili mac, serve it with cornbread, or just inhale it with a spoon, this recipe is going to win you some serious points with your family at dinner!

The Best Dang Chili

This mild chili has some unexpected ingredients in it that will make your tastebuds want to get up and dance!

Spice Mix

  • 3 Tbsp chili powder
  • 1 Tbsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp cocoa powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)

Chili

  • 3 lbs beef chili meat
  • 1 onion diced
  • 2 cans diced tomatoes
  • 1 can tomato sauce
  • salt and pepper to taste
  1. In a stock pot, put 2 tablespoons olive oil over medium heat. Once it gets hot, add the diced onions, salt, and pepper, and cook until caramelized.

  2. While the onions are cooking, combine the chili spice mixture. Once the spices are fully mixed, add them to the beef until well combined.

  3. Once the onions are ready, add the chili meat in with them. Stir to combine and cook thoroughly.

  4. Once the meat it cooked through, add the diced tomatoes and tomato sauce. Salt and pepper to taste.

  5. Bring to a boil and simmer for about 30 minutes. Serve with rice, cornbread, or cheese and enjoy!
