Cake Balls

Cake balls are cake and buttercream icing combined, rolled into two-bite sized balls and then covered in candy coating. They're fun, festive, and never forgotten at any event.

Ingredients

  • 1 cake box mix prepared
  • 3/4 cup buttercream icing
  • candy melts

Instructions

  • Take a regular cake mix from the store and make the cake per the instructions on the box. Allow the cake to cool completely.
  • After the cake has completely cooled, use your hands to crumble the cake. Make sure not to press the cake together - you don't want it sticking together yet.
  • Add the buttercream icing (again, a store bought container of it will do) and combine the cake and icing together. You will want to now press it together and make it firmly packed.
  • Use a 2 tablespoon scoop to portion out scoops of the cake mixture. Using your hands, roll them into perfectly round balls in your hands. Place in the fridge on a cookie sheet for 20 minutes.
  • Melt the candy melts in the microwave (30 seconds at a time or follow the instructions on the package) and stir until silky smooth.
  • Put a cake ball on a spoon and dunk it into the candy melt. Coat it completely. Scoop it out of the mixture and gently tap the back of the spoon unless the excess candy melt has dripped off.
  • Roll the cake ball off of the spoon onto wax paper and allow to dry.
